About Kanyevu

I’m Sheila, and Kanyevu is my middle name. It was given to me by my dad, and I’ve chosen to use it here so I can see it, say it, and hear it more often.

I’ve always loved writing, though I haven’t done it in a while. Life got in the way, as it tends to do. So I’m slowly finding my way back. I also love books, cute stationery, baking, travel, bears!, cards, love notes, random quotes, and action movies. I like quiet evenings and dark humour. Belly laughs and listening to people tell their stories.

I was born in Nairobi, spent most of my adult life in Baltimore, and now live in Toronto. I’m lucky. Deeply lucky to be loved by my family and a wonderful circle of friends.

Hadithi Ndogo, little stories, is a homage to my dad, who passed away when I was 13. When I was growing up, he used to tell me so many stories, old and new, genuine and made-up, and I loved them. They stayed with me. I think this is my way of honouring that, and of beginning to share my own.

I don’t have children who will intently listen to me, so this feels like a good place to start.
A place to reflect honestly. To find joy where I can. To linger.
I hope it grows slowly. I hope it finds its feet. And I hope, in some small way, it feels like a place you can settle into, too.

This is a gentle space. Please be kind to yourself, to others, and to the words shared here.
